painting & drawing [ 11th grade ]

first semester
~~~~~
[ project one ] No Saint
A redraw of a drawing I made in tenth grade, featuring Johnny Joestar from
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run.
~~~

[ project two ] Hand Drawings
Contour, detailed, and empty space practice.

~~~
[ project three ] The Hierophant
A take on the fifth card, The Hierophant, from the Major Arcana of the Rider-Waite Tarot deck. In this, I depicted the Hierophant as a wolf, and the cardinals as lambs. I was playing with the ideas of "blind worship" and "bringing the lamb to the slaughter", as the lambs are worshiping and bowing to the very thing that eats them.
[ project four ] Hitchhiker
For this project, I created a painting of a possum wearing an inside-out sweater, as well as having a skull instead of a normal head, and part of their tail being cut so that it's just vertebrae. I chose to paint him on the side of the road with his thumb up because he's a hitchhiker.
[ project five ] Goon Squad
When I drew this I had been going through an art block so I had absolutely no idea what to do for this. So, I looked through my sketchbook and decided to redraw some of my favorite sketches, but then I got a better idea. I decided to draw these characters, but incorporate three things that I struggle with - fashion, anatomy, and poses. Title is from the song "Fashion" by David Bowie.
[ project one ] This is America
A collage of important movements in American history to show that we continue to march for what we believe in despite the odds. Shown are the Stonewall riots for gay rights, nuclear protests, the March on Selma for civil rights, and women's rights.
~~~

[ project two ] Night Watch
A drawing I did of my original character, Rem (short for Rembrandt). The title comes from Rembrandt's painting The Night Watch.

~~~
[ project three ] Self-Portrait with a Sun Hat
A painting I did of myself replicating Vincent Van Gogh's Self-Portrait with a Straw Hat.
~~~

[ project four] Epitaph
A collage I did using fabric, magazine clippings, paint markers, glitter, and lace.
